Brian Jackson - Eclipse 101

  • Ketchum Town Square (map)

On the morning of August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will be visible across the continental United States. The Moon’s shadow will also pass through Idaho, and visitors from all around the world will flock to our state. In this presentation, Brian will discuss the history of eclipses, how astronomers today have used them to find thousands of exoplanets, and how to safely observe them.

Brian is an assistant professor of physics at Boise State University, and his research focuses on orbital evolution and transit and eclipse observations of extrasolar planets -- planets that orbit stars other than the Sun. Brian also has an active research program in planetary science fieldwork, focused on in-situ instrumentation.
